Back when Plurk first launched, people were saying how the service wouldn’t last, that it couldn’t compare with Twitter, that it would go bust.
Here’s a news flash: Plurk is the most popular microblogging service in Taiwan.
I think Plurk is a great example of many niche services that do not aim to “replace” a dominant player, but instead, finds a home with a specific audience. As of today, Plurk remains steady in having users and an audience.
There are other social networking sites that have found their niche in certain countries – Xing and Bebo are two examples of social networking sites that have found solid supporters outside the United States.
This brings me to an interesting question: would you rather be the giant around town, or the leader of a block?
There’s no right or wrong answer.
The point is, both can give you very good results, when you make a decision which one you want to be!
On an unrelated note….

Yea that’s my Plurk karma. It totally sucks!
