Welcome Plurkaholic Mike Templeton
Featuring Plurkular’s Mike Templeton!
Mike: What makes you a Plurkaholic?
I’ve always got Plurk open in one of my Firefox tabs or as a window in Safari on my iPhone. The other day I was having trouble accessing Plurk at work so I decided to head to McDonald’s to use their wifi. To my surprise (and dismay), McDonald’s wifi wasn’t free, but I had to get my fix of full-screen Plurking so I bought the two-hour block of access to use over my hour-long lunch break. See original plurk that made Jane say “now THAT’S a plurkaholic!”
When you’re not Plurking what do you do?
I work for a financial services company by day and run a marketing and web strategy consultancy by night. When I actually step away from my computer (or put down my iPhone), I spend time with my wife exploring the town we live in and looking for fun things to do.
I’m also a huge Volkswagen fan, so I spend a lot of time out in the garage tinkering on our cars and cruising around with friends.
Do you have some best practice recommendations for using Plurk?
Although Plurk seems to be a bit more laid back in terms of Plurkable content, I think that as more users join the site Plurkers will be more mindful of what they are Plurking. What I mean by this is that people will focus on more content and less fluff.
I do my fair share of “lifestreaming” Plurks, but ultimately I’m on Plurk for the knowledge sharing, brainstorming and interactions with other friendly people. I just can’t spend all of my time catching up and reading about the non-events in everyone’s lives.
What drove you to start your own Plurk-related website (Plurkular.com)?
After having been a Plurk user for only a week, I saw the potential Plurk had and realized the opportunity that existed for people like myself. Plurkular aims to be a Mashable or TechCrunch of the Plurkosphere. I want to report on the popular news, websites, applurkations, Plurkers and reply threads that are stirring up a buzz. My goal is to become the first source Plurkers turn to when looking for what is hot and popular on Plurk.
Web or mobile interface?
Coming from the Twitter world, I prefer the vertical mobile interface. I’ve grown fond of the horizontal timeline over time, but sometimes the mobile version is just easier to follow. I also feel that the Plurk clients on the way will change the way Plurkers interact in a very big way.
